Making the best of break at home

In a matter of hours, students will come pouring out of the doors of this school, eager to embark on spring break ’08. For those staying in Indy, just because you aren’t going anywhere doesn’t mean you can’t have a great break. There is a wide array of events and activities in-state to enjoy, and with Chicago only three hours away, there are some worthwhile opportunities for short road trips. From basketball games and concerts to one-day trips, below are some events that will ensure a successful spring break.
Common
Coined on Yahoo! Music as “jazz-rap,” Common is a rap artist with a style of his own. Lyrically, he tends to stay away from the same rehashed topics of generic rap and instead writes sociopolitical-inspired songs.

“Twelve Angry Men”
“Twelve Angry Men” is a movie and play about a jury tasked with the job of deciding whether an 18-year-old man killed his father. Produced by the Roundabout Theatre Company, the play has been touring through the country since 2004.

Switchfoot
It’s rumored that this alternative pop-rock band gives an energetic live show. If you’re into them, the Murat Egyptian Room is great for concerts.

Anti-Nowhere League / Flatfoot 56 / Everybody Out!
Each of these lesser-known punk bands are sure to give a lively show. Having personally seen Everybody Out!, I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.

Ball State continues its Art of Jazz series
in its 22nd season.

“Wicked”
Having set numerous box office records around the world, “Wicked” is a must-see for fans of musicals. “Wicked” tells the story of the relationship between the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North.

Pacers Games
For basketball fans and more specifically Pacers fans, the Pacers will be playing three home games over Spring Break. They play the Milwaukee Bucks,
the Atlanta Hawks and the Charlotte

Lipizzaner Stallions
A “rare and unique breed,” as the Lipizzaner Web page describes, the Lipizzan horses do incredible feats

Lynyrd Skynyrd
Here is a band that needs no introduction and with only one surviving member of the original line-up, the band embarks on another tour since it was recreated in 1987.

Minus the Bear
With catchy tunes and silly song titles, this offbeat band with five current musicians that started out in Seattle will most likely deliver an entertaining and lively show.
