Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can I get a contract?
A: Use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the 2007-2008 ad contract (just click on the icon at the top of this page). You also may call (317) 846-7721, Extension 1143 and ask for a contract to be mailed or faxed to you.
Q: Will I see my ad before it runs?
A: Yes. Ad proofs will be faxed, e-mailed or dropped off to your business for your approval before the ad is printed.
Q. When will I be billed for my advertisement?
A: Invoices and tearsheets are mailed during the last week of the month; ads that ran during the month are billed at the end of that month.
Q: Can I send my ad to you as e-mail?
A: Yes. Send e-mail to hilite@ccs.k12.in.us or ads@hilite.org. The ad staff uses Adobe InDesign and Photoshop to create ads, so the best format are eps or pdf files.
Q: Does the HiLite accept inserts as advertisements?
A: No. Because of the size of our circulation, our printing schedule does not allow for inserts.
Q: What is your circulation?
A: The newspaper is distributed to all 4,000 Carmel High School students and to the 300 faculty and staff. One hundred papers also are dropped off to the Carmel Clay Public Library, and copies are distributed to the Carmel and Clay junior high eighth grade journalism students.
Q: How often is the newspaper published?
A: Except for vacations, every two weeks.
Q: When is the deadline for submitting my ad?
A: All deadlines are on the contract. The signed contract, along with the material to create the ad (or the actual ad), is due on these dates.
Q: What are the different ways that I can send advertisement information?
A: You may submit an actual black and white copy of the ad, e-mail the ad as a pdf or eps file, or have the student staff design your ad.
Q: In what format should it be sent as an email?
A: Send the ad as an eps or pdf to hilite@ccs.k12.in.us or ads@hilite.org.
Q: Who should I contact if I have any questions or comments?
A: Matt Kanitra is the HiLite advertising manager. E-mail him at mkanitra@hilite.org or call 846-7721, Extension 1143.
Q: Can I request which page my ad is on?
A: The ad staff will make every effort to run your ad on the page or section requested; the earlier the ad is contracted, the better chance of placement in a specific location.
Q: Can I run spot or full color in my ad?
A: No. We only run color on the front and back pages and ads are not placed on either of these pages.
Q: Does the HiLite accept political advertising?
A. Yes. Political ads must be prepaid, however. Because of the size of the CHS student body, many candidates for public office, in both the primary and general election, reach a large block of first-time voters by advertising in the HiLite.
Q: When is the best time to advertise for prom?
A: The Carmel High School prom takes place Saturday, May 6, 2008, so the two issues prior to the prom would be the ones in which to place prom advertising.
