Fall band concert is Oct. 8 at 7p.m.

On Oct. 8 at 7p.m., all five concert bands will host their first out of three concerts here in the main auditorium, starting from Freshman Blue Band all the way up to Wind Symphony I. This year will be different because there is no Opus One or Honors concert, which included mass number performances with other performing arts divisions. The performing arts directors decided that it would be easier not do have these performances this year because each division was getting to large to be manageable for one concert (there are over 400 students in a concert band this year).
Craig Allen, Wind Symphony I euphonium player and senior, said that it should not have an affect on the performances tonight. However, this is Allen’s first year in Wind Symphony I and he did not participate in concert band his freshman year, so he will never have the experience of participating in either concert.
“(Not having an Opus One or Honors Concert) really doesn’t bother me since I’ve never done it before,” Allen said.
Despite the change, Michael Pote, associate director of bands, said this concert will be successful nonetheless. In fact, he said he thinks just having an all-band concert as the first public performance will be better than mass-number performances.
“I think each division will be able to highlight their own first performances better,” Pote said.
Both Allen and Pote said this concert - which is free but donations are accepted – is a positive start for all the concert bands this year.
“(The concert tonight is) gonna be awesome,” Allen said. “I believe all the concert bands are gonna do well tonight.”
