Sophomore dies in tragic accident Monday

Sophomore Michael Schenkel died Monday in a traffic accident in Carmel. Schenkel was a student at Carmel High School.
Dean of Students Amy Skeens-Benton said that students who wish to talk to counselors can go to the Media Center Classrooms today and tomorrow. Counselors will also be available the rest of the week, and students can request passes from their teachers to go the counseling center.
Assistant Principal John Abell informed teachers via email and made an announcement to the entire school Tuesday morning.
The school’s crisis response team met Monday afternoon after the police notified them. “It’s unfortunate that we have to plan for something like this,” Skeens-Benton said. “But we did have a plan, and we put it in place.”
