Swim teams set for success

The swim teams are looking forward to another competitive season in the water. With a scheduled line up of other talented teams like West Lafayette, Noblesville, North Central and Hamilton Southeastern, Chris Plumb, coach of both teams, said he believes that the teams’ biggest competition will be at the State meet. Plumb said, “To compete against everyone at (the) IUPUI natatorium is a thrill and a great challenge.” Read more

JV Football Update

The junior varsity football team ended their regular season on Oct. 20. However, the JV participants continue to help prepare the varsity players for their post-season games. Tomorrow, while the varsity team plays the Semistate game, all JV players will be required to attend because the Semistate game will be a home game.

The football team heads into its Semistate game tomorrow at 7 p.m. The team plays Penn at home in hopes of gaining an opportunity to play in the State championship game on Nov. 29 against the winner of Ben Davis at Center Grove. The Trojans come into that Semistate matchup as the favorite, behind a sturdy running attack, a stingy defense and a home field advantage. Read more

Myth: Only girls cheerlead.
LK: “Here in the state of Indiana, there are co-ed teams. If you look at collegiate cheerleading, I can’t think of one college cheerleading program that is only for females. So it most definitely is a co-ed sport. We have tried to open it up to different gentlemen in CHS who have chosen not to embrace the sport. It’s their decision, not mine. At this time, there are no gentlemen that are cheering for CHS. At one time back in the late 80’s, early 90’s there were stuntmen. Male cheerleaders were called stuntmen. And it was the president of the student body, it was the speaker of the house, it was football players. It was made up of high school boys who were in leadership roles.” Read more

Men’s basketball looking forward to new season

The men’s varsity basketball team kicks off the season next Wednesday. Their first game is at home against the defending state champion Brownsburg Bulldogs. The game will start at 7:30 p.m.
Head Coach Mark Galloway, who is in his sixth season with the basketball program, says he thinks the team has great potential to succeed this season.

“Every season is different and every team is different. I feel this team has the ability to have some success,” Galloway said. Read more

There is a fundamental difference between high school, college and professional sports. High schoolers play for fun, college players play to go pro, and professional players play to make a living.

Obviously, the motives mix and match between the three levels, but for the most part, that’s how it is. Read more
