Open House is planned for Aug. 28 from 6 p.m. to 8:35 for parents. The event begins in the Dale E. Graham Auditorium, then for the second part of the evening, parents will be dismissed to attend their child’s classes.

The introduction will begin with a performance by the Ambassadors, a welcome by PTO President Amy Kline and instructions from Principal John Williams. “It is a wonderful night for us. We do (Open House) early in the year so that parents can meet the teachers,” Williams said.

According to Jan Brown, organizer of the Open House, parents will be guided through the school by NHS students and maps. Each class will last ten minutes with eight minute passing periods.

Counselors, college and career resource counselors and administration will be available to answer any questions that parents may have.

Brown said that often the evening can be stressful for parents but she said that she likes to remind them that, “You can do it.”

There may be some confusion in the theater before “Tropic Thunder” begins. In the middle of the previews, an advertisement pops up for an explicitly titled energy drink, “Booty Sweat.” Then, we see a slew of previews for extremely cheesy and distasteful Hollywood movies: an action movie called “Scorcher VI: Global Meltdown,” a silly family comedy called, “The Fatties: Fart 2,” etc. The drink advertisement and the previews resemble what we see in the media everyday so closely that we totally buy them. Then, the joke is on the audience when these ads turn out to be fake previews featuring the characters in “Thunder,” a bunch of bloated, talentless actors. Read more
