The Story Behind the Story
September 19, 2008
For the past four years, CBS reporter Steve Hartman and his cameraman Les Rose have been traveling cross-country proving that everybody does, indeed, have a tale worth telling with his “Everybody Has A Story” report. The process goes something like this: Hartman would stand in front of a United States map and throw a dart the map. Whichever city the dart lands in, Hartman and Rose would travel to that city. Upon arriving, Hartman would hit the nearest telephone booth and randomly pick a name out of the white pages. He would then, call that person and conduct a series of interviews with this randomly selected person and try to find a newsworthy story. Collectively viewed, Hartman’s reports represent a vivid first-person mosaic of real-life America.
This year, the Hilite Student Section will replicate Hartman’s reports within CHS. However, instead of throwing a dart at a map, we have altered the selection process slightly. We randomly generate a number between 1 and 4200. Whoever matches that random number in the Hilite name list will be interviewed. The point of this segment is to get more faces in the paper and to feature the everyday events in a typical greyhound’s life.

On Friday, Sept. 12, administrators will determine at 10:45 a.m. whether or not to switch to an alternate Homecoming day schedule if rain does arrive. Students will report to their SRTs at 10:50, which was not on the original schedule. Clubs will set up their booths in the cafeterias instead of the stadium parking lot, and CHTV will broadcast the trike races for the rest of the school to watch during SRT. Read more

With every Friday night, comes the excitement, spirit and anticipation of high school football. A time when students can come show their school spirit beneath the glimmering Friday night lights. However, for many students like senior Patrick Boylan, that excitement occurs before those lights are even turned on.
“Tailgating is essential to Friday nights, to help set the mood for the upcoming game,” Boylan said.
Boylan is an avid fan, who not only attends Carmel home games, but all the away games as well.
“If you’re going to tailgate, you better make it worth your while,” Boylan said, “It’s important to have everything in order to make the Friday night what it really should be.”
In order to have a fun, yet successful tailgate, be sure to include the following to the list of activities:
