2. What type of music does your band do?
We play a lot of alternative/acoustic stuff, but there is some techno mix in there for our first song.
3. What songs do you plan on doing at Houndstock?
We’re playing an original piece (the techno one), “Collide” by Howie Day, “Remembering Sunday” by All Time Low, and we’re working on the last one.
4. How long has your band been together?
We haven’t been together very long at all. We decided to try out for Houndstock like two weeks before tryouts. So…roughly a month. We both just love to play and joined together to do it.
5. How did you come up with the name for your band?
Well, a standard piano has 88 keys, and on the guitar there are 6 strings, so we put the two together and kept the “key” part and came up with 86 Keys.
6. Why did you decide to do Houndstock?
We both just thought it would be really, really fun to do. We love to play and what better way is there to get better than by performing in front of people? We knew it would be a great experience and totally awesome.
7. Is this the band’s first time performing at Houndstock?
Yes. First time performing at Houndstock. First time performing anywhere in front of an audience.
8. How did your band come together?
Tyler and I knew that we both played an instrument, so we decided to have a few jam sessions where we just played around. We both thought it would be great to play at Houndstock, so our band sort of came together solely because of Houndstock.
9. Are any of the members looking to pursue a career in music or is it just a hobby?
For me, I would love doing something in music someday. Whether that’s writing movie scores or playing. It’s a huge part of my life. For Ty, he would also like to pursue a career if he was offered one.

1. How long has your band been performing together?
Since this past summer.
2. How long have you known each other?
(Senior) Anna (Mowery) and (senior) Molly (Longest) have known each other since they were really little. I have been friends with them since freshman year, and we met (senior) Eric (Murphy) sophomore year.”

4. What genre of music does the band play?
It’s just really chill. I’d say it’s country/rock/folk/alternative.

We went through a couple of different names, but this one was inspired by School of Rock.

We all really love Taylor Swift and probably Jason Mraz.
7. Do you know what songs you will be playing at Houndstock?
Not sure.
8. Do you plan to keep the band together after you graduate from CHS?
It’s kind of just for fun and we’re all going to different colleges. But when we all come back we might get together for a couple of jam sessions though.
9. Are the members of your band planning to pursue a career in music?
Anna might minor in vocal performance.
10. Have you played at Houndstock before?
No, I’ve been every year but this is the first year we are playing in it.
11. Do you guys write any of your own songs?
No, we just play covers.

1. When was your band formed?
We started it about five years ago.
2. What do you play or do you sing?
I play the electric guitar and sing.
3. Why did you start a band?
It is a good way for us to use our musical gifts for God’s glory.
4. Do you plan to continue it after high school?
We haven’t discussed after high school plans. It’s pretty much up in the air now.
5. Is there a certain band or singer that you look up to?
Lincoln Brewster for sure; he writes a lot of awesome Christian rock stuff. 6. What is your favorite song, and why?
The band’s consensus is “You Are Good.” It has an awesome breakdown part in the middle that is fun to jam on.
7. What would you like the students to experience from your band at Houndstock?
I hope they could experience Christ and his love for each of them.

I praise God for this opportunity, and I pray that we can make the most of it.

I mean it’s different because there are so many of us. But, we all have basically known each other for a few months now.

I mean we will probably separate because we are going different directions. Like Kevin (Carlson) and I are going to IU. It’d be cool but I don’t think it will happen.

I’ve played with a few different bands before.

It was formed in 2007.
2. What do you play or do you sing?
I play the drums.
3. Why did you start a band?
We pretty much just wanted to play music together.

Hopefully, I think that would be incredibly fun and I’d feel very fortunate.
5. Is there a certain band or singer that you look up to?
I personally look up to Tom Gabel from Against Me. He’s an incredibly gifted lyricist and a good human being.
6. What is your favorite song, and why?
My favorite song sort of shifts from time to time, but right now it’s “The Disco Before the Breakdown” by Against Me, just because it’s an amazing song.
7. What would you like the students to experience from your band at Houndstock?
To be honest, I just hope that they like us.

Chris Tomlin because of the messages he has in his songs.

We have been playing for years and years at my youth group, but us two have not performed like this ever before.
5. After graduating, do you plan on continuing to play together?
Probably not as much because I will be at college and Jacob will be in high school but whenever we can.
6. Where and when do you guys usually practice?
We usually practice at church whenever we have worship.
7. How did you guys come up with a group name?
We couldn’t really thing of a good one and so we just made one up really fast. JC stands for Jesus Christ, and we just decided to add crew at the end of it.

We usually perform in front of church members.
M.E.A.T. (interview with junior Emerson Sigman)
1.Who are the members in your band?

3. How did you guys come up with the name of the band?
The name is actually an acronym for Mega Extreme Awesome Team. It was a collaborative idea. We wanted it to be interesting and funny to attract people to listen to us.
4. Who are your inspirations?
Our inspiration would have to be Jimi Hendrix
5. What would you categorize your band as?
We’re more like hard rock, like Jimi Hendrix, but we also play some more modern stuff
like Modest Mouse.
6. What made you decide to perform at Houndstock?
We wanted to see if we could make it. Also, to get us out there and we made it so that really made us glad.
7. How did the band form?
We formed about 3 months ago. We are friends that wanted to get together and just have fun.
8. Do you have original music?
Yes. We do have some originals but we’re still working on them.
9. What sets you apart from other bands?
We try and have fun with our songs and music. Our presentation is all about the music.
10. What songs are you playing at Houndstock?
We are playing “Float On” by Modest Mouse, “I’ve Got Mine by Black Keys” and “Sweet Tea” which is an original by me.
Midnight Vacancy (Interview with freshman Jack Andrews)
1. When was your band formed?
It was formed about a year and a half ago.
2. What do you play or do you sing?
I play lead guitar, and I also sing.
3. Why did you start a band?
Me, (freshman) Drew Cottrell and (freshman) Brian Collings were good friends who all loved playing music and were looking for new people to jam with, and we later added our friend (freshman) Peter Horton on bass.
4. Do you plan to continue it after high school?
I have no idea what our band will be like after high school, but I myself will always be playing music.
5. Is there a certain band or singer that you look up to?
I look up a lot to the Beatles, Oasis, Death Cab for Cutie and the Smiths, among many, many others. 6. What is your favorite song, and why?
Probably, my favorite song is “Don’t Look Back in Anger” by Oasis because it is a gorgeous song.
7. What would you like the students to experience from your band at Houndstock? In our 20-minute slot, I want to give everyone a taste of what we’re about and play some darn good tunes.

I don’t know. I wanted something kind of like a nonsense and fun.
4. Who are your inspirations?
I would have to say Weird Al.
5. What would you categorize your band as?
Polka music.
6. What made you decide to perform at Houndstock?
I kind of wanted to shake things up and break away from the normal.
7. How did you get interested in the accordion?
I’d have to say back to the Weird Al thing.
8. Do you have original music?
No, because I play polka music.
9. What set you apart from other bands?
My polka element is definitely different.

Queso Please (Interview with junior Cam Hanes)
1. What are the names and grades of all the band members?
Well I am Cam Hanes, and I’m a junior. There is Zach Anselm and he’s a junior, there is Joni Labin and he’s a junior and then there is Tyler Hobbs who is a sophomore.
2. What kind of music do you play?
We play a variety, but primarily classic rock and funk jams.
3. What do each of the band members play?
I play guitar and sing lead vocals, Zach plays bass guitar, Joni plays guitar and Tyler plays drums.
4. How/ where did you get your band name?
Joni came up with it after recalling an experience he had when he went into Qdoba to get some queso when they claimed they didn’t have any, which is strange because they are known for their queso. Joni just kept asking for queso and eventually there was a dispute, and he almost got thrown out of Qdoba.
5. How did the band get started?
Well a friend introduced me to Joni so we started jamming, and then the same friend had been told about Tyler, who was a good drummer that wasn’t in a band. So we got his phone number and started to jam with him, and Zach was already a friend of mine whose other band had broken up, so I brought him in to play bass for us.
6. Have you played anywhere else besides Houndstock?
Yes, in fact, in the past two weeks alone we played at Night of Rights, and we played four hours at Baskin Robbins to promote an ice cream special.
7. Have you ever played in Houndstock before?
No, but all of us attended last year.
8. How many years have you been playing together?
Joni and I have been playing together for just over year. Both of us and Tyler have been playing together for about 10 months, and since we brought in Zach, all four of us have been playing together for about four months.
9. What are your expectations for Saturday?
I just plan to go out there and have fun, and I expect that we will surprise a lot of people.
10. What songs will you be playing?
We plan to play four songs: two covers which include “Hey Joe” by Jimi Hendrix and “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd and then two songs of our own.

They’ve been together for a couple of years, but I just joined a couple of months ago.

I went to elementary school with (junior) Owen (Yonce), I’ve known (junior) Andy (Painchaud) for a while, and I just met (junior) Brian (McGowan).
3. Who are all the members of your band, what grade are they in, and what role do they play?

4. What genre of music does the band play?
We are definitely indie/progressive/southern rock.
5. How did you get your name, The Man Bandits?
Owen thought it was cool, I guess. We were just going for the Southern Rock thing.

Thunder Hawk, The Black Keys, Jimmy Hendrix, and Wilco.
7. Do you know what songs you will be playing at Houndstock?
We know we are probably playing three originals (“Sue and I,” “The Sky is Blue,” “Playin’ with a Loaded Gun”) and maybe a couple covers, but more originals than covers. We want to promote ourselves more than other bands.
8. Do you plan to keep the band together after you graduate from CHS?
Hopefully, I mean we all have plans and separate goals. It’ll probably be a side project after high school.

Definitely Owen and myself. But I’m not sure about the others.

They did last year with a different drummer.

Actually took it from a Mars Volta EP, plus it’s kind of a cool word…had to write
something down on the band tryout sheet so…yeah
6. Why did you decide to do Houndstock?
We thought we could bring something new to the lineup this year.

8. How did your band come together?
We have been friends for a while in another band and wanted to do some experimental work on the side.

Billy will most likely be majoring in music recording at IU while Evan is still undecided.
