A message from the editor-in-chief:
Hi everyone,
I hope that this issue finds you in the midst of the pleasant autumnal weather. Further expanding the focus on student health from the last issue, the front page features Maria LaMagna’s story on the damaging effects of repeated high sodium intake. Look for updates on school events in our news and calendar sections. For continued fall and winter athletics coverage, refer to the sports section and the exclusively online Greyhound Stats page, which lists the most recent scores.
In the Spotlight section, you can find recipes galore for all things pumpkins. Make sure to try staff reporter Stephanie Hodgins’ family recipe for pumpkin cake — it’s delicious! In the Perspectives section, managing editor John Shi has opened the forum to you. Check out the photo and tell us what you think these people are saying. The best one-liners will be published in the next issue of the HiLite.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at jchen@hilite.org. As always, thanks for reading.

GRAPHIC PERSPECTIVE
What is going on in this photo? What is this guy saying to his wooden friend? Why is the wooden figure so contorted? Is there a point? You decide. Managing editor John Shi has left the meaning of the photo up to the readers, who are asked to submit what they believe the dialogue in this photo should say. We will be mentioning the best caption in the next issue, so, readers, go online and submit your ideas—along with your name and grade—at our Web site, www.hilite.org, and don’t forget to check back next issue for the winning selection.
