September 19th, 2007 - Carmel High School student Wins Ryan White Award: Carmel High School senior John Shi earned first place in the editorial/commentary division of the annual Ryan White Excellence in Journalism competition sponsored by the Journalism Education Association (JEA). His column, titled “Sex Education Policies Slow to Adapt to Reality,” appeared in the May 29 issue of the HiLite newspaper. Read more?

September 10th, 2007 - Carmel High School newspaper earns Superior rating from Quill & Scroll: “The anonymous judge gave the paper an International First Place Award for superior achievement. Newspapers earning between 900 and 1,000 points earn that distinction. Carmel’s paper earned 936 points out of 1,000 and additionally earned superior achievements in all five of the evaluation’s individual categories – policy guidelines, coverage, writing and editing, display and design and business practices.” Read more?

Hi everyone!

In this issue, look for our front page story on the security measures implemented this year and other new procedures at school. In our Spotlite section, you can find in-depth look at Carmel’s academic ranking compared to that other area schools and those around the nation. In the entertainment section, our resident movie guru, Sam Watermeier, reviews current fares at the theater. For football coverage and all fall sports, look to our sport pages to find interviews with the top players and previews of upcoming events.

For clarification, the page one story regarding ISTEP+ procedures lists the incorrect date for junior/senior excused absence forms. The forms are due September 13th, 2007.
